In a rapidly changing higher education landscape, the institutional accreditation process remains a critical component in ensuring academic quality, institutional accountability, and eligibility for federal funding. Yet, as colleges and universities navigate evolving student needs, technological transformation, financial constraints, and growing calls for transparency, many leaders question whether the current accreditation framework is keeping pace.

Earlier this year, NAAE conducted a nationwide survey of academic leaders to understand their perceptions of current accreditation practices, the alignment of accreditation with institutional missions, and their appetite for meaningful change.
