The James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal has been an articulate and sophisticated advocate for accreditation choice in the U.S., developing model state legislation that has been introduced, adopted and in some cases, enacted. The basis for accreditation choice relative to academic credit transferability is explored in this treatise by Adam Kissel. The essay also explores the unwarranted privileges afforded incumbent accreditors by various institutions and government affiliates. It provides important context for the formation and launch of NAAE, and the impetus for its pursuit of recognition by the U.S. Department of Education.
